SkillsPlugin Discussion

-- AndrewRJones - 05 Jun 2007

Neat idea, thank you for sharing with the TWikiCommunity! Very much in line with the TWikiMission. Some large companies such as Google ask new-hires to post their interests and skills on their TWiki homepage, so that people with similar interests can find each other. This plugin supports this.

How about measuring and documenting the PluginBenchmarks? See Plugin Info table in NewPluginTemplate.

It would be nice if one could select category and skills in a more efficient way. From what I see one must select skill one by one and that means alot of clicking. We currently just use a table with editrow and while that is not as visually nice as this plugin, it makes it easy and efficient to edit all of one's skill. Another clever smile thing we do is to generate color codes of all skills so that e.g. skills with an score of 3 of less are colored red. Then we see a total overview of skills and so we use this to plan proper training internal/external to rectify the "weaker" areas. This a good and needed plugin and I hope this input could be interesting to further development.

Hi Lars,

Sorry I didn't see your feedback sooner. I think it would be a good idea if the user could edit more than one skill at a time, so will look it to implementing that for the next release.

With regards to highlighting the different skills using colour, it does sound like a really good idea, although this plugin already has a search which allows you to define ranges of the users skill, which seems as good a way to get a list of users who might want to be trained up.

Thanks for your feedback!

Our current solution for a list of skills is a simple table with a row for every one, which is definitely not the final solution. So I tested this plugin and it looks really fine.

What I noticed is, that special characters are replaced by underscores and thus make it really hard (if not impossible) to enter things like "C++" or a link to a wiki page. I think it would be a real gain in usability to allow those strings.

First i would thank you for this PlugIn? , it looks very nice.

Is it possible to get an Overview Page with the Skills of All Users (belonging to a specialGroup? This would be really helpful for us.

Thanks

Manfred
